Overview

The mission of the NIGC is to (1) promote tribal economic development, self-sufficiency, and strong tribal governments; (2) maintain the integrity of the Indian gaming industry; and (3) ensure that Tribes are the primary beneficiaries of their gaming activities.

Background

The National Indian Gaming Commission was created by Congress through the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988 (P.L. 100-497). The Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) established the NIGC as an independent federal agency within the Department of the Interior (DOI). IGRA was enacted with the express purpose to support and promote tribal economic development, self sufficiency, and strong tribal governments through the operation of gaming on Indian Lands. IGRA provides a legal framework structured to safeguard tribes as the primary beneficiaries of their gaming operations, shield Indian gaming from corrupting influences, and ensure that the games offered are fair and honest. IGRA created the NIGC to protect tribal gaming as a means of generating revenue for tribal governance and tribal communities.

Responsibilities

  1. Perform systems engineering and maintenance activities according to established standards.
  2. Apply knowledge and skills of information systems management principles including NIST guidelines and FISMA directives.
  3. Apply knowledge of networking technologies including LAN, Cloud Environment, MS Azure, and Wireless management in solutions implementation and troubleshooting.
  4. Evaluate current NIGC IT systems architecture and configuration with a view to recommend well researched and documented corrective actions.
  5. Identify gaps in the implementation of Federal Information Systems Management Act (FISMA) requirements and propose remediation plans.
  6. Manage the M365 Entra ID environment with a focus on conditional access, MFA integration, and auditing.
  7. Provide written recommendations to System Owner on systems operations priorities to help drive operations improvements and identify dependencies.
  8. Develop and implement STIGS configuration baselines for servers and configure proactive monitoring and alerting for all critical IT resources.
  9. Perform day-to-day IT systems administration activities according to best practices in both on-premises and M365 environments.
  10. Evaluate and execute security compliance activities such as Endpoint Detection and Response policies and SCUBA compliance baselines to align the environment with cybersecurity directives and internal security requirements as requested by the CISO.
  11. Install, configure, test, and maintain servers, storage, and related networking equipment.
  12. Develop disaster recovery strategies for critical systems and data as directed by System Owner.
  13. Implement patch management strategies, and secure data according to established procedures.
  14. Install firmware and security updates on servers, printers, and related networking equipment.
  15. Maintain configuration hygiene, mitigate vulnerabilities, document systems administration processes, and support the implementation of controls to meet FISMA requirements.
  16. Participate in special project team meetings to gather relevant systems requirements and support the integration of projects with IT operations.

Qualifications

A minimum of six (6) years of continuous, progressively responsible experience in systems engineering, systems administration, or a closely related information technology field supporting enterprise environments.

 

Ability to Obtain a Public Trust:


This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Public Trust clearance. Candidates must be eligible to complete all required background investigation steps and meet applicable federal security requirements as a condition of employment.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred; however, equivalent professional experience and demonstrated technical expertise may be considered in lieu of a degree.

 

Relevant IT certifications may be substituted for a formal college degree; however, demonstrated hands-on experience in performing the required tasks is mandatory and may not be substituted.

Location and Work Hours

Work shall be performed primarily onsite at the NIGC Headquarters located at 550 12th
Street SW, Washington, DC 20024. . Limited remote work may be authorized at the discretion of the designated Federal Task Manager.

 

The standard work schedule shall be Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
