This role provides high-level editorial support to the Institute for Telecommunication Sciences, ensuring the quality and accessibility of technical publications and public-facing materials, while serving as a key resource for writing, formatting, and document management across the organization.
The Institute for Telecommunication Sciences (ITS) is the research and engineering arm of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). ITS supports NTIA’s mission by conducting foundational research in radio science and applied telecommunications, helping to inform national spectrum policy and management. In addition to supporting NTIA, ITS provides technical expertise to other federal agencies, state and local governments, private industry, and international organizations.
ITS also tackles emerging challenges in telecommunications, information technology, and cybersecurity. The institute contributes to the development of telecommunications standards that promote fair competition and innovation within the U.S. communications and IT sectors.
As a research-driven organization, ITS regularly shares its findings through peer-reviewed publications, sponsor reports, and presentations to both governmental and non-governmental stakeholders.
Minimum of 4 Years of experience editing complex technical documents for clarity, structure, and consistency.
Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Technical Writing, or a related field is required.
A Master’s degree or additional coursework in technical communication, library science, or information design is a plus.
Work Location:
On-site in Boulder, CO at the Institute for Telecommunication Sciences (ITS).
Occasional remote work or off-site event support may be required, as determined by the project lead.
Full-time (40 hours per week), standard business hours (Monday–Friday).
Occasional extended hours or on-site event support may be required based on project needs.
Section 508 compliance and WCAG 2.0 familiarity is required; formal certification is preferred.
Certification in technical writing, editing, or accessibility (e.g., CPACC, IAAP, AMWA) is a plus.
Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $70,000 annually. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
